CHARLOTTE, NC — A Charlotte man is $110,000 richer after winning the Carolina Cash jackpot last week. Lonnie Graham purchased the $1 Quick Pick ticket June 13 at the Smoker’s Depot on South Tryon Street, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.
When he went back last Friday to check his ticket, "he heard a sound he had never heard before," said lottery officials.
"I heard the winning sound," Graham said in a statement. "And I couldn’t believe it." The owner of the store then sat him down to explain his good fortune. "He’s always joking around with me," said Graham. "He said, ‘I know you won’t believe me, but you won $110,000.’ Then he took care of me, made sure I was all right before going home. That’s how in shock I was!"
Later that same day, Graham traveled to lottery headquarters in Raleigh to claim his prize, which was $77,825 after taxes were paid. He told lottery officials he intends to put the windfall towards retirement.
