16 Feb Charlotte Considering Bid For 2020 Republican National Convention
CHARLOTTE, NC — City officials are considering making a bid as host city for the 2020 Republican National Convention, Charlotte’s top leader said Thursday.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our city, our region and our state to the world," Mayor Vi Lyles said in a statement Thursday.
City officials, along with regional stakeholders are "evaluating options," with the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority tasked with coordinating the city’s proposal, with is due at the end of the month.
Six years ago, Charlotte hosted the Democratic National Convention, which city officials said brought about 35,000 visitors to the city, along with an estimated economic impact of $163 million
